New Wizards Movie Details

\ A Summer Soiree\ The Magic of Mentoring

For a lot of non-hardcore fans, one of the most important, yet rarely-mentioned plot lines of "Wizards of Waverly Place" may have slipped by. This line is, of course, the family competition. In each immediate wizards family (that means only parents and children), the sibling must compete against one another to see who can keep their powers into adulthood. Jerry, the patriarch of the Russo family, won his competition but gave up his powers in order to marry Theresa.

So, by now you've probably realized that Alex, Justin, and Max are also in a competition together. Who do you think will win? Most will probably say Justin, including the "Wizards" cast themselves! David Henrie, who plays Justin, says that his character will most likely end up keeping the familial powers. "He's the most responsible, he takes his studying seriously and he'll make the right decision at an important time," David explains. Jennifer Stone (Harper) agrees, but also adds Max into the mix. "I really like someone who works hard and is really disciplined, so I think Justin should win. It’d be hilarious if Max ended up with the powers because he’s the one that everybody least expects." Selena Gomez also picks Justin, but adds "It would be interesting to see Max win because there’s something hidden in him underneath. He’s really paying attention. [Alex] is so independent. She loves magic, but it’s not her No. 1 priority, whereas Justin lives and breathes it, and Max is there and does the work. Alex can find other things to do with her life and her friends and family."

But it's Jake T. Austin who describes the most creative outcome: "I would love it if, in the last episode, our long lost brother or sister that we never knew about came in and won the power … and then did a spin-off." Jake, who plays Max, also revealed a Wizards of Waverly Place: the Movie detail! The actor says that the movie will feature a mini wizards competition, but the results will only be temporary.

None of us, including the cast members, know who will end up keeping the Russo family magical abilities. Justin seems like the obvious choice, but could it end up being the underdog Max?

For now, we'll have to settle for the "temporary results" from Wizards of Waverly Place: the Movie, which premieres on August 28 on Disney Channel.
