10 Fun Facts About HSM


Here is a list of what we thought were the "most fun" facts from the movie High School Musical.

  1. The soundtrack was the best-selling album of 2006.
  2. The first DVD was the best-selling TV movie DVD of 2006.
  3. It was the first Disney Channel Original Movie to have two DVDs released, one of which was a 2-disc set, another first.
  4. At the time, it held the title of the most-watched Disney Channel Original Movie premiere, with 7.7 million viewers.
  5. For its one- and two-year anniversaries in 2007 and 2008, Disney Channel celebrated it with some sort of special. For the one-year anniversary, the cast was interviewed while promoting the film in London. For the two-year anniversary, a 35-minute documentary following a high school production of High School Musical was aired.
  6. Zac Efron only provided some vocals in the movie. The singing voice for Efron's character of Troy was mainly done by Drew Seeley. For the second film, Efron provided all of the singing.
  7. The school the movie was filmed at, named East High in the movie and in real life, is located in Salt Lake City, Utah and has received much attention from tourists since the film's premiere.
  8. The budget for the film was $4.2 million.
  9. The writer of the film, Peter Barsocchini, had to convince Disney to allow the film to take place in high school rather than middle school.
  10. The film has been described as a modern-day retelling of Romeo and Juliet.
