More Info on Nick and the Administration

Nick Jonas discusses diabetes in Washington

We told you about how Nick Jonas is stepping back from the Jonas Brothers temporarily and flying solo with Nick and the Administration.

Well we have more details on Nick's new project, including what you all want to know. Their first, Who I Am, album is due for a February 2 release.

But the wait to hear some of the songs won't be too long! They will be debuting their lead single at the Grammy Nominations Concert special on December 2 on CBS.

So why did Nick decide to go solo? "I had written five or six songs that were on my heart, things that were just pouring out of me with this new and exciting sound," explains the seventeen-year-old. "They weren't necessarily right for the Jonas Brothers, but I thought they could be perfect for something else."

And that something else became Nick and the Administration. Nick recorded the album last spring and obviously will provide the lead vocals for the group. Other members include drummer Michael Bland and keyboardist Tommy Barbarella, as well as David Ryan Harris, who played guitar on the album, and Sonny Thompson, who will replace David in the live performances.

As for the sound of the album, Nick says it's "heart and soul." ""It's a cross between my roots in R&B and soul with a kind of rock/pop music behind it." He also insists that most songs on the album will be just as he recorded them (in other words, no dubbing or editing, which is a risky move).

Some songs from Who I Am are "The Rose Garden", "Conspiracy Theory", "Olive and an Arrow", "State of Emergency", and a new version of the Jonas Brothers' "Tonight". Interestingly enough, the song "World War III" was supposed to be included on the Administration's album, but it went to the Jonas Brothers instead.

We hope this satisfied your curiosity for now! We'll make sure to post anything else we read or hear about Nick's new band!
